    TF2 is crashing constantly

Well, not necessarily tf2, but I am getting that Nvidia driver crash. It started maybe a week ago, crashing maybe once or twice a day.

Now it's literally every 5 minutes, rendering TF2 nigh unplayable.

I play on a laptop, having a cooling pad, laptop is always running at a nice cool temp, so I don't think heat is the issue.

I also recently cleaned out my case and got rid of all the dust, so it's not that.

I am running the latest drivers that were released a few days ago. (updated them when it first started crashing and that didn't fix it)

I've started running tf2 with all the graphics settings on low, and in dx 8.1 mode. Doesn't help.

Oh, and TF2 is the only game it's happening on. Not starcraft, diablo, or any other game in my steam library.

    So...how I play Tf2?

According to your laptop, you don't.

    Hope this helps!

    Hmmm...
What kind of nvidia card do you have? And whats the operating system?

It could be something with the power settings/supply. I know laptops have a lot of power saving options. But if that was the case it shouldn't be coming up out of nowhere.

You could try rolling back to older drivers. (older then what you had when crashes were starting of course)
But again, you were fine with specific drivers before... so probably not that.

I really hope it's not something with the video card going out, like some sort of light artifacting that it can recover from.

I'm sure you'll get some better answers then I gave. need the iO techs to come to the rescue! lol

    Two quick suggestions though:
Try running tf2 with no other applications running at all.
Try running a different game, while monitoring framerate, and see if you experience a drop after playing for a little while.

Already tried rolling back, no luck. I've got a geforce gt230m in Windows 7 64-bit. And playing on diablo3 and other steam games yields no problems.

did you check the integrity of teamfortress? (right click teamfortress in steam and check cache and integrity)

    or go the drastic route:
go to control panel > device manager
go to display adapters and remove/uninstall all the drivers (there is also a nvidia drivers download located usually in C:\ you should delete that, thats just an install, and itll install immediately you try to uninstall)

after you uninstall, reboot, and see if windows will update the driver itself (but delete the Nvidia folders first from the hd)

Already verified integrity of local files. I did a clean install when I installed the newest drivers earlier this week.

If I remove/uninstall the display driver, will it just auto-reinstall when I reboot? I just don't want to not have a display driver and completely blank screen.

If you uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot. Windows will install the standard 600x800 standard vga driver. You should be fine.

Tried that last night. Doesn't crash as much, but still does occassionally. Did a clean reinstall of the drivers.

I talked to my firm's IT guy who is also an avid gamer, he's gonna see what he can do.
