The [iO] Tag is not a Free Pass

First let me introduce myself. I'm Monster, iO TF2 Admin for a little over a year, member for nearly 5 years.

One of the best things about our servers, in my opinion, is that there's very little restriction on what players say and do. If you read our rules (which some of you could use a refresher on) you'll see that all we ask is that you treat your fellow players with respect, not do anything purposefully to cause your team to lose, and the obvious no hacking/exploits.

All players on our servers are expected to follow those rules, and in my opinion all Members and Admins should be leading by example for new players coming in. Nobody should be able to leave our servers and say 'man, those iO guys are a bunch of dicks'. It's not good for the community, it's not good for the servers.

If someone comes in and is being a giant douchecanoe and breaking rules, whether he's a member or not, contact an admin. Don't be a douchecanoe back to him. Two wrongs don't make a right. We'll handle it. In my opinion, if you're 'feeding the troll' so to speak, you're just as guilty as the 'troll'.

If you're playing songs or sound clips through your mic, be polite and courteous to those in the server and turn it off if you're asked to. 90% of the time these are hilarious and people will look the other way because it's fun, but if you're team's losing and needs to strategize it goes from being fun to debilitating. I know there is a mute function in game, but on a team of 16 people, making 15 people have to mute you in order to play the game is ridiculous, it falls on you.

Most importantly, just treat each other like human beings. We're all gamers but that doesn't mean we don't have feelings. Insulting someone jokingly for missing a rocket jump is different than saying "Yeah I've seen your Facebook, you're ugly as hell!" to someone you barely know and aren't 'friends' with. Practice a little social awareness.

One last bit I want to touch on is this, the [iO] tag is not a free pass. Just because you have the tag, or you're friends with an admin, doesn't mean you're beyond being punished for breaking rules.

I hope that those of you who read this really let it sink in and continue to make our community a great place to meet people and play the video games we all love, thanks for your time.

We've actually changed it so that when blAAAm plays demo all 3 of his weapon slots are frying pans and his hat is also a frying pan so that's not a problem anymore.

Did something happen for this all to bring about? Like somebody using the tag when they aren't allowed to?

Well as far as i know if someone who isn't authorized to use the [iO] tag tries putting it on the server rejects the name change and automatically changes it back to whatever it was before

Re: The [iO] Tag is not a Free Pass

Recently members abusing the iO tags and sayin crap they shouldnt say. But thats been going on forever, monster is finally just bringing things to light. Thankfully we have an admin who actually addresses overall issues as a community instead of letting things slide. Hopefully other admins and members will read this so we can keep this community clean. When visiting other servers i hear a lot of people bitch about how useless or admins are and how overly rude our members are. We dont need to be known as "those people"

Yes there was a precipitating event but I won't get into specifics. Just tired of seeing iO members doing and saying things that we would definitely not put up with from other players.

    This is correct.

Re: The [iO] Tag is not a Free Pass

Yeah, I hope this really straightens out some players. The community as a whole is great but there's a handful who think they know what's best for iO without even askin', and it really just fouls up the fun environment when these discussions have to be made. And I especially hope the admin being referred to in the OP learns that the primary goal of an admin is to ensure a fun environment for all, not just the loudest members of the community. Thanks!
