wow, mIRC... I haven't used this thing in years![]()
I was interested to find out, that iO has an IRC channel on Gamesurge, so I decided to make a post here.
The channel (once again) is on the Gamesurge server, and the channel is #iOGaming. I identify myself as [iO.PubTF2]Syntak so people know that I am in iO, and I am from the public TF2 server.
There are two ways you can connect to our IRC chat room:
Download mIRC @ http://www.download.com/mIRC/3000-21...dlPid=10764664
Once you get it up and running, you will click File -> Select Server -> Gamesurge and click connect
Once you are connected to gamesurge, you can type /nick (desired name) to rename yourself, and then type /join #iOGaming to get into the channel.
The second way is to go to www.gamesurge.net/chat and use the java applet to connect, then follow the same steps after connected to get into the channel.
Things you should know:
When you connect to IRC, your IP address is public. To hide your IP address, Type: //mode $me +x and it will hide your IP address. To have this automatically done, add it into your preform.
mIRC looks pretty ugly, and lacks a lot of features, so I use something named "no name script" You can get it at http://www.nnscript.com/ make sure to follow the installation instructions!
wow, mIRC... I haven't used this thing in years![]()
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile
wtf is a mIRC channel?
Its a way to talk over the internet pretty much. It is generally used for games such as counterstrike 1.5/6 where you find games to join for scrims. It's much easier to find games that way. In our case, we could use it to contact admins and such.
For more information, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat
Its a very resourceful document. Small details might be incorrect and it's probably biased but its still informative.
I can't connect to the channel. Are you sure it's there?
Then again, I see three different things under Gamesurge, so perhaps I picked the wrong one. I'll try some other stuff.
ADD: Okay, I tried all three of them and none of them work. I can't connect. I've never had any problem connecting to anything else before.
I know what IRC is and what an IRC channel is. However, I have no idea wtf a mIRC channel is.
It's not broke. Most of the time IRC is full of afk/idle individuals. Unless you are in an active channel, it will usually be quiet.

I hate IRC. I wont be using it sorry.
If you guys impliment FlashChat into the forum then we'll talk.![]()
If you want to join the IRC channel without all the effort of learning mIRC or another IRC client, just type this into your Run window in Windows and hit enter. It will join the IRC server and channel for you.
irc://irc.gamesurge.net/iOGaming
mIRC is ok, another IRC program which is 100% free (unlike mIRC) is XChat
first of all, get xchat from http://www.silverex.org
install it, obviously. the default options work fine, add to it as you please.
then as it comes up it will show you a network list. let us start:
first, enter your 3 preferred usernames, in order, in nick name, second choice, and third choice
second, enter your user name and real (optional) name
then click add twice next to the network list, and type two name you can remember. iO Gaming works well, or GameSurge, as well.
For the first one, say iO Gaming, highlight it and click edit.
click the server name, you want "irc.gamesurge.net/6667"if you want it to load as you start xchat, check auto connect to this network at startup
the proxy servers and ssl are optional.
join channel #iOGaming
If you have registered and you want it to automatically log you in, do the following:
Next to 'Connect Command' put in /authserv auth <yourusername> <yourpassword>
click close
Highlight iO Gaming and click connect, and you should be good to go.
here's video, the quality sucks and it has no sound, but it'll do if you get lost
