So you have a Windows phone? Do you expect yo upgrade your phone to Windows 8?
    Forget about it.
Microsoft announced yesterday June 20th, that the new anticipated Windows 8 phone are about to roll out. The only draw back is that existing users wont be able to upgrade to the new OS. Users who have Windows phone will get the option to upgrade up to Windows version 7.8.

Could it be hardware related? Older phones might simply not be able to run the new OS smoothly. I find that when I upgraded to android 2.3 from 2.2 it looks much prettier but runs a bit choppy due to the old hardware on my X10. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Galaxy S3, actually.

No different from Android phones really, A lot of carriers have phones that do not upgrade to the next Android OS version unless you bascially opt in to upgrade or buy a new Phone with the latest Android OS as well.. Only people who can truly upgrade with ease are the ones who are rooted.

i have Samsung Vibrant and ICS (but hey its rooted with custom ROM). and let admit it, the Vibrant is not due to any updates after 2.3 or so.

    u said it all.

I'm also rooted and using a custom rom, but even it is slow... I use my phone to pull up driving directions a lot, look up truck stops, use the calculater, etc... and shit, its slow and hangs a lot. Pretty soon I think its new phone time.

Sometimes I think of going back to 1.6 LoL
