This is very interesting. Will need to keep eye on this one. They're located in your backyard too :P
I laughed: PLEDGE $1,337 OR MORE <----- heh
it seems interesting but.... i mean.
it IS just an android you can hook to your tv. which already exist. (many tablets have hdmi ports on them)
its a neat concept but i dont think it will pan out very well, because what makes android good is not ONLY its open source platform, but its interface, which is optimized for mobile devices.
also, most tv's are not touch screens.
idunno. im just a naysayer i guess. maybe if they bundle from day 1 software that will allow you to use any of the wireless controllers with it (ps3/xbox360/wii), that would def help.
The console is HACKABLE!! you do what you want with it, if you like adding a USB HDD, rooting it you can or tinker with the hardware, while playing it on your tv with ease, it also about playing games with controllers and giving indie devs a good solid platform for their games as well.
- Tegra3 quad-core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB of internal flash storage
- HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth LE 4.0
- USB 2.0 (one)
- Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
- Android 4.0
Either way, I am glad I pledged, the 99 dollars slot are almost gone and project is close to being funded today with 29 days left still..
It is a console. The controller they're developing has a built-in touch pad. I'm guessing it would be a whole lot easier to use than a little rectangular phone. Plus, this has the power to bring back oldies, that is if anyone makes them. Spy v. Spy? Dig Dug? Galaga? Those can be played on a phone, sure, but getting them back on a TV with a full controller is pretty awesome.Originally Posted by KRosen
.... no.... lol, those things are not that hard to do with a regular old computer chiz. when you say it IS a console, what does that really mean? its a computer with regulated specs, all the same hardware.
le wiki
so what exactly are these people doing that is so great? will they be manufacturing their own integrated devices, or picking the cheapest bulk buy they can from china?A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or customized computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game. The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for people to buy and use primarily for playing video games on a TV.
dont get me wrong, it is neat - it might replace set top box's that are used as passthroughs for entertainment systems (example Amazon.com: Roku HD Player: Electronics the roku box), but.... its not going to be a gaming revolution here.
its going to be neat, but not great neat.
Hackable, do whatever i want with it for $99 bucks. I do the same thing with my desktop but quite honestly I do not want to have a desktop in my living room to make it a media center, yes i could make a HTPC and call it a day, but for $99 bucks with ANDROID and being able to Root the console and a controller with a touchpad which perhaps could be use as a remote as well and use the APPS out there on the fly to my pleasing sounds perfect for me.
First thing I am going to do is root it, and have google play on it and have all my apps I've purchased on the system. It's going to be neat or It could be great neat depending on what surprises the Ouya team said they have for us in the near future.
Notch made a pledge for a OUYA, generous pledge as well some said he pledged for the 10,000 dollar slot.
Notch himself was quoted saying, "I am quite frankly surprised this hasn't happened earlier. Me and plenty of other people have tried connecting small PCs to their TVs and plugging in controllers in an attempt to get an open TV gaming experience that they can control, but there's been constant interface and infrastructure problems with that. And frankly, the only really good use of it was to run emulators. Something like OUYA could solve a lot of these issues, making it easier to find and navigate between content, and putting a good community in place around it."
