Cancelling In Progress

I get so peeved at the world when I'm downloading something or something's loading and I have to press the 'Cancel' button neatly placed at the bottom of the screen so I can go back and do something.

First off, why the hell do these Cancel buttons exist if all they do is chew up twice as much memory as before? I press the Cancel button and the program freezes for like 5,000 minutes before it actually cancels the process.

Secondly, if Microsoft can make a built in program that can close, open, or alter any program without fail (but with some delay (Task Manager)), why can't other companies create stable loading screens with a simple little Cancel button that actually cancels the operation? Fuckin' ridiculous to me.

When I turn 60, I want to be known as the man that created "that 100% reliable cancle button on "that one loading screen"". Man, that would be somethin' else.
